Housing All Australians Appoints Housing Innovation Leader Dan McKenna as Inaugural CEO

PRESS RELEASE: 19 December 2024

Housing All Australians (HAA), the innovative for purpose organisation helping mobilise private sector resources to address Australia’s housing crisis, today announced the appointment of Dan McKenna as its inaugural Chief Executive Officer. This strategic appointment follows McKenna’s successful tenure at Nightingdale Housing and his involvement in demonstrating a proof of concept of HAA’s Progressive Residential Affordability Development Solution (PRADS) model during his tenure as CEO of Nightingale Housing.

At Nightingale, McKenna transformed an innovative housing concept into a nationally recognised development model that garnered support across the political spectrum. Under his leadership, Nightingale became renowned for delivering sustainable, community-focused housing developments that prioritised social and environmental outcomes alongside financial viability. His groundbreaking collaboration with the City of Merri-bek, which implemented HAA’s PRADS model to increase affordable housing from 5% to 15% while maintaining project viability, exemplified Nightingale’s innovative approach to addressing housing affordability. McKenna established Nightingale as a developer of choice, demonstrating how values-driven development can create both commercial success and significant social impact.

“The housing affordability crisis demands innovative solutions that bring together diverse stakeholders across sectors,” said McKenna. “Having implemented the PRADS model at Nightingale and been across the evolution of the PRADS register which has garnered full industry support, I’ve seen firsthand how an innovation like PRADS can unlock affordable essential worker housing, at scale. I agree with HAA’s position that Australia’s housing crisis is too big for government to solve alone. It must actively engage the private sector and the entire existing property eco system. With an additional one million social and affordable homes needed by 2041, Housing All Australians’ approach to catalysing private sector engagement represents a game-changing approach to addressing this national challenge.”

Robert Pradolin, co-founder and the Executive Director of Housing All Australians, highlighted the strategic significance of the appointment: “Dan’s successful work at positioning Nightingdale as a developer of choice and implementation of the PRADS model demonstrates his ability to translate innovative concepts into practical outcomes. His experience in working with local government to create planning value that subsidises affordable housing makes him the ideal leader to help scale the PRADS model nationally.”

Under McKenna’s leadership, Housing All Australians will pursue its ambitious goals to:

  • with HAA’s growing list of compassionate capitalists, continue to create transitional housing in unused empty buildings across Australia
  • continue to secure donated goods and services from private sector, value aligned organisations wanting to help vulnerable Australians
  • Scale the PRADS model nationally through collaboration with local government
  • implement the PRADS register in partnership with PEXA and REA Group (realestate.com)
  • Engage the entire property ecosystem in Australia’s housing solutions

HAA has established itself as a pioneering force in reimagining affordable housing as essential economic infrastructure. The organisation’s innovative PRADS model, now proven through McKenna’s work at Nightingale, demonstrates how private sector engagement can effectively help address Australia’s housing challenges.
